Relational Mirroring for Attunement
Relational mirroring involves naming observable behaviors in a gentle, attuned way to deepen emotional connection and mutual understanding.
Examples:
“I noticed you looked away when we touched on that—would it feel okay if I checked in with you about what’s coming up right now?”
“I’m noticing your voice got softer when you mentioned that—what’s happening for you as we talk about it?”
“You’ve been shifting around a bit in your seat—sometimes that can mean different things. How are you feeling in your body as we sit with this?”
Key Practice Tip:
Frame observations as invitations, not assumptions. Use curiosity, permission-based language, and non-judgmental tone to foster psychological safety.
