Relational Mirroring for Attunement

Relational mirroring involves naming observable behaviors in a gentle, attuned way to deepen emotional connection and mutual understanding.

Examples:

  • “I noticed you looked away when we touched on that—would it feel okay if I checked in with you about what’s coming up right now?”

  • “I’m noticing your voice got softer when you mentioned that—what’s happening for you as we talk about it?”

  • “You’ve been shifting around a bit in your seat—sometimes that can mean different things. How are you feeling in your body as we sit with this?”

Key Practice Tip:

Frame observations as invitations, not assumptions. Use curiosity, permission-based language, and non-judgmental tone to foster psychological safety.
